Winning Streak Ends At 12 For Men's Lacrosse

Nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College had the longest winning streak in the program's nine-year history come to an end on Wednesday, as the No. 10 Cardinals dropped a 14-10 decision to host Nazareth College on Wednesday in a battle of two of the nation's top teams.

Fisher (12-1 overall, 3-1 Empire 8) entered the game as one of only three undefeated teams in the country. With the win, Nazareth, ranked No. 11 in the latest national poll, improves to 11-2, 6-0.

The Golden Flyers outscored Fisher 9-2 over the final 37 minutes, including a 4-0 spurt over the final 16:33 of the game.

Fisher jumped out to an early 5-3 lead, but Nazareth scored with five seconds left in the first quarter, giving the Cardinals 5-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Nazareth tied the game up at 5-5, but the Cardinals scored the next three goals, including two from Connor Henderson and led 8-5 with 7:33 left in the second quarter.

The Golden Flyers, however, answered right back scoring just 12 seconds later and tied the game at 8-8 with 4:07 left in the second quarter.

Nazareth took the lead 70 seconds into the second half, but Fisher ended a 4-0 run by the Golden Flyers as Mitch Ritchie found Chris Schmidt wide open in front of the net, tying the game at 9.

Nazareth regained the lead, but Fisher's Jeff Price tied the game at 10-10 with 3:40 remaining in the third 

Nazareth took the lead for good with 1:33 left in the third quarter, starting a 4-0 run for the Golden Flyers to end the game.

Dave Malone, Henderson and Price each scored two goals. Ritchie finished with two assists, while Kyle Denhoff, Mike Cummins and Ryan Schmidt each finished with one goal and one assist.

Jon Cortina stopped 12 shots in goal.

 Fisher will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Alfred University.
