Jurik Becomes Fisher's All-Time Leader in Wins

Dan Jurik became the all-time wins leader at Fisher with a complete game win over Beloit.
Dan Jurik became the St. John Fisher College baseball team's all-time leader in wins against Beloit College (WI) with a 10-3 victory on Thursday afternoon in Vero Beach, FL. Jurik surpassed Matt Chollet on the all-time wins list, earning his 17th win in a Cardinal uniform. The senior pitched a complete game, only giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out 10 Buccaneer batters.

In the first inning, Fisher gave up three runs on just three hits and found itself in a hole early. The Cardinals battled back, however, scoring three runs of its own in the top of the sixth. With one out Kevin Wing stepped to the plate and singled to centerfield. Designated hitter Steve Karnyski followed suit with a single to left as did Marc Montesano with an infield hit of his own. Leo Fusilli hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Wing. The next batter, Jon Gibbs, entered the batter's box and roped a shot to the right center field fence scoring two runs to tie the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Montesano saved a run with the Buccaneers threatening, making a diving catch in the right center gap to end the inning. Preserving the tie proved essential in the seventh, as Wing drove in Matt Klock to take the lead 4-3. Fisher produced the run with two outs, as Klock started it with a double down the rightfield line. This run happened to be enough although the Cardinals added six more runs in the last two innings to ensure the victory.

Wing finished the day 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Klock, Gibbs, Montesano, Karnyski and sophomore Teagen Barresi each finished with two hits. Gibbs and Barresi each led the team with three RBI. Montesano also crossed the plate two times.

Fisher will play its final game on its stay in Vero Beach tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. against Neumann University (PA).
