Women's Lacrosse Comes Close to #4 Hamilton

Trish Scudder had a season-best four goals in the loss.

The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team nearly knocked off the No. 4 team in the nation today, but came just short, losing to visiting Hamilton College 14-10 at Fisher's Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals (0-5) led 5-3 with just over 10 minutes left in the first half, but the Continentals ended the opening period with a 3-0 run to take a 6-5 lead by intermission and never trailed again.

Fisher cut Hamilton's lead down to two goals with 6:07 left, but the Continentals sealed the win with two goals late in the game.

Trish Scudder led the Cardinals with a season-high four goals, while Mary Stimson dished out a season-high three assists. Lauren Glavin totaled three points on two goals and one assist. Ashley Fenyn tallied one goal and one assist, while Meg Merriam, Courtney Clare and Jackie Maynard also scored a goal.

Vicki Sahm stopped nine shots and scooped up five ground balls.

Fisher finished the game with an advantage in both shots (29-28) and draw controls (14-11). Both teams totaled 16 ground balls.

Fisher will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday and will host Elmira College in the Empire 8 Conference season-opener for both teams. The Cardinals have won the Empire 8 Conference Championship twice in the last three years.
