The St. John Fisher College Cardinals fell to neighboring rival Nazareth on Tuesday night at Nazareth's Kidera Gymnasium, allowing the Golden Flyers to
escape with a 68-65 victory in overtime play.
Nazareth quickly took control of the five minute overtime, gaining a five-point lead thanks to three good free throws and a lay-up from Brittany Wilson, who led the Golden Flyers with 19 points.
Amanda Lax tied the game for the second time with 20 seconds left, sinking a 3-pointer to knot the score at 65-65. It wasn't enough, as Wilson would come in clutch for Nazareth again, hitting a three from the left corner with less than a second to go.
Fisher opened the second half on a 15-0 run, pushing its lead to 45-33. Nazareth took its first lead of the second half with 2:27 left to play in regulation. Lax, who had 11 first half points, scored her first point of the second half on a good free throw to tie the game at 58-58 with under a minute to play, leading to the eventual overtime.
The Cardinals answered an 11-0 run from Nazareth and a 15-point deficit in the first half with a 12-4 run over the final five minutes to take only a three-point deficit into the locker room at the half, 33-30.
