The St. John Fisher College Cardinals erupted for five second-half goals to
defeat the D'Youville Spartans 6-0 in their 2009 home-opener at Growney Stadium.
The Cardinals out-shot the Spartans 37-1. Fisher was awarded 11 corner kicks, and capitalized on several goal opportunities.
Megan Gee led the team to the win with a hat-trick. She started the scoring 30 minutes into the first half off an assist from
Mary Dougherty, who totaled three assists in the win.
Action slowed until the Cardinals came out fired up in the second half, with freshman
Catherine Mibaum recording her first collegiate goal to kick off a string of four goals in less than nine minutes. She was followed closely by Gee's second goal, unassisted, and her third goal, off a corner kick from Dougherty headed by Mibaum and put in front of Gee.
Senior
Kaelyn Witz put in the fifth goal of the afternoon off Dougherty's third assist, a corner kick headed by Witz.
The Cardinals slowed down on scoring for 13 minutes, when sophomore
Kaitlin Moran picked it back up, stealing a loose ball and slipping it into the right side of the goal.
Fisher returns to action when the women hit the road to face SUNY Brockport this Sunday at 3 p.m.
