Women's Lax Routs SUNY Geneseo

Tabbi Rice and the Fisher defense forced 20 turnovers in Fisher 11-goal win over SUNY Geneseo.
The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team came through with a 16-5 win over visiting SUNY Geneseo on Thursday at Fisher's Growney Stadium.

With the win, Fisher improves to 6-5 overall, marking the first time the Cardinals have gone over the .500 plateau this year after starting off 0-3. Geneseo is now 5-5.

The Blue Knights took a 3-1 lead after Casie Damore scored with 17:25 left in the first half, but the Cardinals scored the final eight goals of the first half to take a 9-3 at intermission. Seven of the eight goals came in a nine minute span, with Mary Stimson scoring the first two goals to start the spurt. Six different Cardinals scored over the final 17:14, as Fisher pushed its lead to 11 goals.

Jackie Maynard tallied a career-high five points on two goals and three assists, while Lauren Glavin also notched five points with three goals and two assists in the win. Jen Springett (2g, 1a) and Meg Merriam (3g) each picked up three points.

Goalie Vicki Sahm stopped 10 shots to earn her sixth win on the year.

Fisher will return to action this weekend with two pivotal Empire 8 Conference road games. The Cardinals will play at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday and at Hartwick College on Sunday.   Fisher has a 3-2 record in the Empire 8 and is currently tied for fourth in the conference standings. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the Empire 8 Conference Championship with the winner of the four-team tournament earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
