Women's Lacrosse Comes Up One Short Vs. Nazareth

The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse teamlost its Empire 8 season-opener to East-Avenue rival Nazareth College, 14-13, on Wednesday at Fisher's Growney Stadium.

Fisher (2-4 overall, 0-1 Empire 8) led 6-4 with 9:08 left in the first half, but the Golden Flyers scored the game's next five goals to take the lead for good.

After falling behind 14-10 with just over 10 minutes left, Fisher scored the next three goals, including a man-down goal from Ashley Fenyn, with 59 seconds left, but failed to tally the equalizer.

Fenyn led Fisher with four goals and one assist, while Lauren Glavin added one goal and four assists.   Glavin, who moved up to second on Fisher's all-time assists (44) and points (145) list, also led her team with eight ground balls and five draw controls.

Meg Merriam totaled three goals, while Courtney Clare finished with three points as well on one goal and two assists.

Mary Stimson added a goal and an assist. Trish Scudder and Jen Springett also scored in the loss.
Vicki Sahm stopped 12 shots.
Fisher will return to action on Saturday at Alfred University.
