Cardinals Get By Baldwin-Wallace

Catcher Jamie Harmon blasted a two-RBI single in the fifth inning of Fisher's win over Baldwin-Wallace.
The St. John Fisher College softball team raised its record to 5-1 to open the season on Monday with a 4-2 win over Baldwin-Wallace College in the Tucson Invitational.

After two scoreless innings, junior Laura Rojek reached on a fielder's choice, but recorded the RBI as Samantha Vara, who led off the inning with one of her three hits, came around to score.

Behind a leadoff double from Vara to start the fifth, the Cardinals plated three more runs to take a 4-0 lead. Kelly Jones and Kristi Bradley each singled in the inning, with sophomore catcher Jamie Harmon's hard-hit single up the middle accounting for two RBI.

Baldwin Wallace scored its two runs on a pair of RBI triples down the right field line in the sixth, but got no closer, as Amanda Shevchuk induced a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.

Shevchuk (3-1) recorded the complete-game win, and fanned five batters. Vara led the Cardinals offensively with three hits and two runs scored, while Harmon and Jones each went 2-for-3.
