Playing in its eighth game in five days, the St. John Fisher College softball team improved to 7-1 with a
5-1 win over SUNY Oneonta in the Tucson Invitational on Wednesday.
With two on and one out in the fifth,
Kelly Jones broke a scoreless tie with a two RBI double to center field to give Fisher the lead.
Fisher plated two more runs in the top half of the sixth due in large part to several Oneonta miscues.
Carissa Carlson reached and advanced to second on an error, with a wild pitch advancing her to third and scoring freshman
Megan Zoerb. Carlson scored on a passed ball for the Cardinals' final run of the inning, before an RBI double from
Jamie Harmon brought in
Samantha Vara in the seventh for the game's final score.
Amanda Shevchuk allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters in the complete-game win. Vara went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Jones picked up a hit and brought in two runs.
Kristi Bradley and
Megan Zoerb each went 2-for-4.
