The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team improved to 2-1 with an 86-76 road win over SUNY Brockport on Tuesday night.
Five Cardinals scored in double figures for the Cardinals, led by17 points (one off a career-high) from sophomore guard
Ozell Franklin.
Matt Newman chipped in with 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while
Tyler Wescott and
Will Cornett added 12 points each. Sophomore swingman
Brandon Witte scored 10 points and tallied four rebounds.
The Cardinals, who enjoyed a 12-point lead at the half (44-32), built their lead up to as many as 17 points early in the final period. The Golden Eagles refused to go away though, and battled back over the next five minutes with an impressive 22-6 run. The spurt brought Brockport to within one (57-56) with 12:05 to play in the game.
Fisher scored nine of the game's next 11 points to get back in control (66-58), and sealed the win from the charity stripe down the stretch.
The Cardinals will host Hobart College at 2 p.m. on December 2nd.
