St. John Fisher University Athletics

Paul Hackford (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) of the St. John Fisher College men’s volleyball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week that ended on February 9th, 2020. 

The Cardinals played the University of California, Santa Cruz on the first day of the Fisher Invite in which Hackford posted a game-high 37 assists. The Cardinals would win the match in three-sets as Hackford would set up his teammate Josh Bigford for the match-winning point. 

On the second day, Fisher played Thiel College where the Orchard Park native surpassed 2,000 career assists. Hackford would also set a game-high with eight digs as the Cardinals would sweep the Tomcats in three-sets. In the last match on Saturday, Fisher would play against Geneva College where Hackford recorded seven kills and set career-highs with 22 digs and four aces. The Cardinals would comeback in the match to win in five-sets as they were down two-sets-to-none. Hackford would be the hero for the Cardinals as he ended the match with a behind the back set that cleared the net and hit the court before a Golden Tornado could get to it. 

Fisher will play again in two weeks as they travel to take on Vassar College on Friday February 21st, 2020.
