Alea Steigerwald (Penfield/Penfield) of the St. John Fisher College women’s volleyball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 30th 2018.
Steigerwald had a historic week for the Cardinals, totaling 81 kills over four matches, including a record-setting 32 kills with a .356 hitting percentage in a win over New Rochelle. The freshman also finished the past week with 38 digs, six service aces, and an average .363 hitting percentage.
The Penfield native started the week with a game-high 20 kills and 14 digs in an Empire 8 matchup with Nazareth. The freshman would then go on to notch 12 kills versus Skidmore on Friday, followed by 17 kills in a win over Plattsburgh.
Women’s volleyball returns to the court on Wednesday, when the team travels to Utica College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup at 6 p.m.
