St. John Fisher University Athletics

Lauren Wiard (Avon/Avon) of the St. John Fisher College women’s indoor track and field team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after helping to lead the Cardinals to a second place finish in the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday in Utica.

Wiard won the long jump for Fisher and qualified for ECACs with a leap of 5.16 meters overall.  The freshman would go on to place second place in the 60-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 8.07.  The Avon native set a new personal record in the preliminaries after notching a time of 8.04.

Wiard and the rest of the women’s indoor track and field team will look to build on its momentum at 10 a.m. on Saturday when they compete in the Marc Deneault Invitational which is hosted by Cornell University.
