St. John Fisher College’s Sarah Stefanon (Perry/Perry) of the softball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 10, 2013.
The senior pitcher led the Cardinals to a 4-6 overall record last week, including a 2-4 record at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Georgia, an invitational featuring the nation’s top programs.
In seven appearances, the senior posted a 1.05 earned run average and struck out 34 batters in just 25.2 innings pitched.
On Sunday, she pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts to earn the win in Fisher’s victory over No. 17 Ohio Northern University. Earlier the day, she pitched 5.1 innings, giving up five hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. She didn’t factor in the decision, as Fisher scored four in the seventh inning to beat No. 10 Central College (IA) 6-4.
Earlier the week, she struck out 11 batters and no earned runs over seven innings in a 4-0 loss to Methodist University. She also picked up a save, pitching three effective innings in relief (no hits, seven strikeouts) in a 5-0 win over LeGrange College.
Fisher will return to action on at 1 p.m. March 23rd and will host Rochester Institute of Technology
