Ashley Maynard of the field hockey team has been named the St. John Fisher College Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending on October 16th, 2016.
Maynard anchored a defense that held both of its opponents scoreless this week, giving the Cardinals a 2-0 record and increasing their win streak to 11 straight.
In the week’s first game, the Rochester, NY native stopped all eight of the Union College Stateswomen shots. She would later be relieved of her goalie duties with 11 minutes to go as the Cardinals were up 4-0.
She then outdid that performance with a complete shut out against conference-rival Washington and Jefferson College. Maynard played all 91:41 of the double-overtime win, turning aside 10 shots, half of which were recorded in the overtime periods.
Maynard has impressed this whole season, as her numbers are some of the top in the country. She leads all of Division III in both save percentage (92.0%) and goals-against average (41.8%).
Fisher will look to maintain its current win streak as it returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as the team hosts Keuka College for a non-conference bout.
