Portia Velasco (Carondelet /Vallejo, CA) of the women’s basketball team has been selected as the St. John Fisher College Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 30, 2014.
The senior guard helped guide Fisher to the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Invitational title after combining to score 39 points in wins over Rivier University and Union College over the weekend.
Velasco scored a season-high 26 points in an 89-69 opening game win on Saturday over Rivier University. She also recorded a career-high six steals to go along with one assist.
In a commanding 80-62 win over Union College in the championship game on Sunday, Velasco poured in 13 points, two assists, and added one steal.
The Cardinals, now 3-1 on the year, return to action at 8 p.m. on Tuesday when they will host William Smith College in the 49th Annual Wendy’s College Classic.
