St. John Fisher College’s Devin Cornelius (Clinton/Deansboro) of the men’s track and field team has been named as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 16, 2014.
At the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College this weekend, Cornelius posted a two-day total of 4,750 points to win the heptathlon, beating out top Division I talent.
On Saturday, Cornelius finished first in the shot put with a throw of 12.22 meters, and also took second place in the 60-meter dash (7.19 seconds) and high jump (1.86 meters).
He concluded the event by making a comeback on the second day, finishing strong by winning the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:48.25 minutes.
Cornelius currently ranks 14th in the nation in the heptathlon with 4,772 points.
The Cardinals track & field team will return to action on Friday at the RIT Orange and Brown Invite.
