Adam Ambielli (Notre Dame/Califon, NJ) of the St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 5, 2014.

Ambielli helped the Cardinals to a 3-0 week averaging over 17 points per game and three steals over that span.

The junior had a game-high 23 points, including going 7-9 from 3-point range, to propel Fisher over Thomas College 85-50 on Monday in the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament.

On Friday, Ambielli scored a team-high 17 points in a 59-54 defeat at Houghton College.

Ambielli came back the next day to ignite Fisher to its first Empire 8 Conference win, 59-44 over host Elmira College scoring 13 points and picking up a career-high five steals.  It was the fifth straight game Ambielli has scored in double figures.

The Cardinals, who are winners of four straight, are now 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8.

Fisher will have its home-opener at 6 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Hartwick College.
