St. John Fisher College’s Lindsey Holtz (Loudon County/Hamilton, VA), a senior on the softball team, has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 7, 2013.
In a 3-1 week for the Cardinals, Holtz appeared in all four games, going 5-for-8 with three walks. The senior had a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the week. The Virginia native also had slugging percentage over 1.000 (1.125) and an on-base percentage of .727.
The first game of the week was game one of a doubleheader with Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday at Fisher Field. Fisher mercy-ruled the Ducks but it was 0-0 in the fifth inning with two outs and the bases loaded for the Cardinals. Holtz was at the dish and worked a walk with a patient at-bat, plating the first run of an eight-run fifth. In the nightcap, Holtz was 2-for-2 with a solo homer in another 8-0 mercy-rule win for the Cardinals.
Sunday pitted Fisher against Elmira College in an Empire 8 doubleheader. The Soaring Eagles took the first game 6-3 as Holtz was 1-for-3 at the plate. Fisher got revenge in the second game, winning 1-0 off a Jessie Smyrski (Rutland/Rutland, VT) solo shot in the sixth. Holtz was 1-for-2 in the victory.
Fisher returns to action at 3 p.m. on Monday in a non-conference doubleheader with Pitt-Bradford.
