St. John Fisher College’s Mason Judd (Palmyra-Macedon/Macedon), a junior on the football team (6-2, 3-2 E8), has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 28, 2012.
Judd led the Cardinals on defense in Maryland against Empire 8 foe Frostburg State University, helping Fisher to a 21-0 victory. The shutout was the Cardinals’ first in exactly five years, with the last scoreless opponent coming on the same day (October 27) in 2007 with a 38-0 win over Utica College.
The junior played a large role in Fisher’s success, leading the team in tackles-for-loss (5) which dropped the Bobcats back 13 yards in total. He was also second on the team in tackles with 12, five solo stops and assisting on another seven, trailing only Sean Preish’s (Aquinas Institute/Rochester) 14 total tackles. Judd also had the only sack on the day for the Cardinals, getting to the Frostburg quarterback and putting him down for a loss of six yards.
On the year, Judd leads Fisher in sacks (4.5), tackles-for-loss (10) and fourth in tackles (36). His tackles-for-loss have dropped opponents back 38 yards and Judd’s 4.5 sacks have gone for 31 yards of loss.
Judd and Fisher will return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday as it gears up for its final home game with the visiting Buffalo State College Bengals. It’s a must-win game for Fisher to keep its playoff hopes alive, with the team vying for a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship.
