St. John Fisher College’s Sarah Fordyce, a junior on the softball team, has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 1, 2012.
In a 5-1 week for the Cardinals, Fordyce hit .647 (11-for-17) with an on-base percentage of .684 and a slugging percentage of 1.059. She started the week with identical performances in two victories against Medaille College, going 3-for-3 in both contests with two runs scored and two RBI in each.
In the Cardinals 3-1 win against the University of Rochester on Wednesday, Fordyce went 1-for-2 with a run scored while plating another and walking once.
Saturday pitted Fisher against former Empire 8 Conference member Rochester Institute of Technology. The Cardinals swept the Tigers, 8-0 and 9-1; with Fordyce turning in nearly identical performances again. The junior went 2-for-3 in each game, crossing the plate once while driving in two of her teammates in both outings. She recorded a double in each game, but the difference in her stat line was a home run in the first win over RIT.
Currently, Fordyce leads several major categories for Fisher. She leads the team in batting average (.531), slugging percentage (.831), on-base percentage (.556) and doubles (6). The Jordan native is also second on the team in RBI (15).
The Cardinals return to action at 3 p.m. Monday when Fordyce and Fisher play host to The College at Brockport for a non-conference doubleheader.
