St. John Fisher College’s Meghan Soja (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) of the women’s basketball team has been named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2012.
In a 1-1 week for Fisher, Soja made contributions on both sides of the court. In the Cardinals first Empire 8 Conference contest of the season, Soja finished with 15 points and three offensive rebounds. The senior led the Cardinals in floor time, playing all but five minutes of the 82-50 loss to Ithaca College.
On Saturday, Soja helped the Cardinals rally for their first Empire 8 victory of the season, mounting a comeback to overcome an 18-point first half deficit. In a 77-69 win over Utica College, the fourth-year player tallied a total of 17 points, while grabbing six rebounds and stealing the ball four times. Soja leads the Cardinals in the latter category, with 34 total takeaways after 12 games.
Fisher will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when it takes the short trip to the University of Rochester to battle the undefeated Yellowjackets.
