St. John Fisher College’s Ryan Schmidt (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) of the football team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 18, 2011.

Schmidt scored three touchdowns on Saturday night in Fisher’s 52-3 win over the University of Rochester.  Schmidt made a team-high nine catches for 96 yards in Courage Bowl VII, for Fisher’s 10th consecutive win over the Yellowjackets.

Schmidt hauled in touchdown passes of 19, 15 and 9 yards, all in the first half, to give the Cardinals a commanding 28-3 halftime lead.

The senior wide receiver also ran the ball for 51 yards on four carries to lead  Fisher in all-purpose yards, with 147 on the day.

Schmidt’s three touchdowns marked a Fisher record for most receiving touchdowns in a game, the third time he has achieved the feat in his career.  Following his nine catches, he now sits in third place all-time with 132 career receptions.

The Cardinals return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday for Fisher’s homecoming matchup against Hobart College.
