St. John Fisher College’s Danielle Leone (Manchester/Manchester, CT) of the softball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete for the week ending April 3, 2011. The sophomore was also named as the Empire 8 Pitcher of the Week.
In a 5-1 week for the Cardinals, the sophomore pitcher made three starts and totaled 13 strikeouts from the mound. She went 3-0 for the week and tallied a 0.74 ERA.
In A 9-1 win over Medaille College on Tuesday, Leone tallied six strikeouts and scattered four hits in five innings.
On Wednesday, Leone shut out the University of Rochester in a 1-0 win. In seven innings of play the Manchester native only permitted three hits and fanned six batters.
In Saturday’s 4-1 win over RIT, she recorded one strikeout and scattered six hits over seven innings.
For the season, Leone leads the team with a 1.79 ERA, strikeouts (34), innings pitched (54.2) and wins (6).
The Cardinals return to action at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in a doubleheader at SUNY Oswego.
