St. John Fisher College’s Julia Sortisio of the softball team has been selected as the College’s Female Athlete of Week for the week ending May 22nd, 2016.

Fisher won the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Rochester Super Regional last weekend after defeating Manhattanville College on both Friday and Saturday in the best-of-three tournament. With the title, for the first time in Fisher history the team advances to the NCAA Division III Softball College World Series, held in Salem, Virginia.

Freshman centerfielder Sortisio was named the Super Regional’s Most Outstanding Player after going 3-for-5 with two RBI and crossed the plate for two runs of her own in Saturday’s game. In Friday’s game Sortisio had two hits and scored Fisher’s only two runs of the game.

The Cardinals will take on the University of Texas at Tyler at 11 a.m. on Thursday in its first game of the DIII College World Series.
