St. John Fisher College has named #Mike O’Connor# of the men’s tennis team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 19, 2009.

The Cardinals earned two wins in a three-game week, including an Empire 8 Conference decision over host Alfred on Friday. O’Connor went a combined 4-2 in the week, posting an identical 2-1 record in both singles and doubles action.

The senior suffered his only losses of the week against Hobart, as the Statesmen posted an 8-1 win over Fisher. O’Connor got back on track against Alfred with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 comeback win at third singles, and teamed with #Karl Schiefer# for an 8-0 third doubles win. The duo also posted an 8-1 win at first doubles, their eighth tandem win of the season, in Fisher’s 9-0 shutout of visiting SUNY Oswego to close out the week. O’Connor picked his second singles win of the week, 6-0, 6-0, at third singles in the win over the Lakers.

Fisher (6-12 overall, 3-4 Empire 8) will close out the regular season at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Utica College in an Empire 8 Conference meeting.
