St. John Fisher University Athletics

Kelly Zaferakis

Kelly Bergamo was hired as an assistant coach in September 2020 following a brilliant four-year career for the Cardinals.  From 2016-19, Bergamo helped lead Fisher to 64 wins, four postseason berths and an Empire 8 Championship in 2016.

Bergamo's impact was felt immediately as Fisher cruised to a perfect 6-0 record during the 2020 season with the Cardinals claiming their second Empire 8 Championship and first since 2016.  Bergamo helped lead Fisher to another Empire 8 title in 2021 and the team's second appearance in the NCAA Championship after posting a 12-8 overall mark.

One of the top field players in the conference as a junior, Bergamo's offensive talents would have been tough for opposing teams to contain, however, it would be her defense that proved more valuable as the Liverpool native switched to play goalie for the Cardinals – something she had never done in her career.

The result? Fisher won the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship behind Bergamo's 15-5 record in the cage.  The senior posted a 1.30 goals against average and came up with 71 saves in total.

A two-year captain and a four-year member of the field hockey team, Bergamo's name still appears throughout the Fisher record book despite not playing in the field as a senior.  Her 25 goals are the fifth-most in team history while her 54 career points in good for seventh in Fisher's history.
