Joshua Smith joined the St. John Fisher men’s soccer program as a varsity assistant coach and the head coach of its reserves squad in July 2025.
Smith came to St. John Fisher after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Rio Grande, a nationally respected NAIA program in Ohio. Rio Grande went 26-7-4, won a River States Conference title, made two appearances in the NAIA National Tournament and had 15 all-conference selections, including one who earned NAIA All-America honors, during Smith’s time on staff. Smith also led Rio Grande's reserve program, which posted a combined 17-3-5 record over two seasons.
A native of England, Smith moved to the United States in 2019 to continue his education and play soccer at Cayuga Community College, where he earned All-Region and All-Conference honors. In 2021, he transferred to Rio Grande and played two more seasons of collegiate soccer before transitioning into the graduate assistant role in 2023.
Smith also coaches for the Rochester Rush club soccer team. He is currently completing his USSF D License, a soccer coaching certification offered by U.S. Soccer, designed for coaches working with players aged 13 and older in competitive environments
Smith resides in Rochester with his wife, Lacey.
