Jon Covney

Covney joined the St. John Fisher staff in the winter of 2017, named the Associate Rowing Coach.
 
A Pittsford native, Jon started rowing as a freshman in high school in 2003 for McQuaid Jesuit High School on its founding team, staying on for all four years. He continued on to row at Ithaca College, where he was a member of boats that made the Grad Finals at the National Invitational Championship in 2007 and 2009, as well as a State Championship in 2008. After earning a B.A in Sport Studies in 2010, Jon continued his education at Ithaca earning his M.S in Sport Management the following year in 2011. While working on his masters, Jon was a graduate assistant for the crew team helping lead the men’s freshman 8 to a bronze medal at the National Invitational Championship.
 
Following his time in Ithaca, Jon moved back to Rochester and started with Pittsford Crew as an assistant with the varsity team. He was named the Varsity boys head coach in the summer of 2015. At Pittsford he helped coach boats to multiple New York State championship medals and appearances at USRowing Youth National championships in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. In addition to coaching at Pittsford, he was the club’s program coordinator.
 
He returned to McQuaid Jesuit as he was named the Head Rowing Coach in July of 2016.
 
Outside of rowing Jon has worked for the Rochester Americans and Knighthawks as their Game Presentation Coordinator.
 
He currently resides in Rochester.
