St. John Fisher University Athletics

Linda Gohagan

Linda Gohagan took over as the head coach of the Fisher women’s tennis team in the fall of 1996 and the men's team in the spring. In the summer of 2007, Gohagan was named as the United States Professional Tennis Association/Eastern Division's College Coach of the Year, and has guided the women’s tennis team to five New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament berths and one Empire 8 Championship while piloting the men's program to 10 consecutive Empire 8 Championship berths dating back to 2012.

Over the last four seasons, the women's team has seen a resurgence as the Cardinals posted three consecutive seasons with nine wins from 2017 and 2019 and have made the Empire 8 Championship match in two of the last three seasons. The Cardinals qualified for the Empire 8 Championship in both 2017 and 2018 and then won the conference title in 2019 for the first time in program history. Gohagan won E8 Coach of the Year for the second time in her career by leading Fisher to a perfect record in league play during the regular season and conference tournament in 2019 as the Cardinals clinched a berth into the 2020 Division III NCAA Championship - the first in their history.

On the men’s side, Gohagan has continued her success as the Cardinals are routinely among the top programs in the Empire 8.  With nearly 100 All-Conference selections since her appointment, Gohagan has a history of recruiting and developing top-level talent.

A Rowan University graduate, Gohagan played tennis, softball, and basketball during her collegiate career. She also was an All-Conference field hockey player. Prior to coaching at Fisher, Gohagan coached the women’s tennis teams at University of Rochester and SUNY Brockport for two years.
