St. John Fisher University Athletics

Megan Shoniker

Megan Shoniker was hired by St. John Fisher College in the Fall of 2012 as the team’s staff associate.  A Rochester native, Shoniker will be responsible for player development and recruiting, while also assisting with the team’s video analysis.

Megan comes to Fisher after a standout career at the University of Rhode Island.  A two-year captain for the Rams, Shoniker finished her four-year career as one of URI’s most prolific offensive threats.  At the end of her career, Shoniker had joined Rhode Island’s 1,000-point club with a total of 1,318 scored, placing her seventh all-time in scoring.

At the time of her graduation, Shoniker’s career totals placed her high on the record lists as she finished second in scoring average (18.9), third in 3-point field goals (158), fifth in assists (301) and eighth in free throws (308).  The average of 18.9 points per game ranked her 25th in the nation in scoring as a senior.  Her 117 games started from 2007-2011 went down as the most in the program’s history.  In her senior year, 2010-11, Shoniker played 1,066 minutes, the most all-time at URI.

She scored a career-high 35 points twice during the 2010-11 season, which was just two points shy of the school’s record. Shoniker set a URI record on 2/13/11 with 18 free throws made against Saint Louis.

Shoniker finished her time at Rhode Island as one of the school’s most decorated players, as she was honored on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team and All-Academic Team.  She was also named the Rhode Island Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and a Capital One Academic All-District Second Team Selection, the only player in Ram’s history to win the award.

Shoniker graduated from URI in December 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.  While at Fisher she will be continuing her education by pursing her masters in Special Education.

Following her career at URI, Shoniker signed with Team Olimpia Grodno in Belarus where she played from January 2012 to May of the same year.  In her time overseas, Shoniker was named to the First Team All-Belarusian League and First Team All-Import.

Megan graduated from Greece Arcadia High School after becoming Monroe County’s all-time leading scorer with 2,216 points.  After leading the Titans to Class AA State, Western Regional and Sectional Championships as a freshman, Shoniker was a four-time All-Greater Rochester selection, Team MVP and Section V All-Tournament Team Class AA selection.

Outside of Fisher, Megan works part time as a basketball skill training coach.  She currently resides in Rochester.
