St. John Fisher University Athletics

Matt Toohey

Toohey returned as an assistant coach with the baseball team in 2021 after having toed the rubber for the Cardinals from 2016-19.  In that stretch, Toohey and the Cardinals went 128-55 (.700) and reached the postseason four times including back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

The team's most successful year came in 2016 after winning the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship and advancing to the Division III World Series for the first time in team history.  Fisher made the most of its trip after finishing tied for fifth place overall with a program record 39 wins.

Over 21 career relief appearances on the mound, Toohey amassed a 2-2 record with 17 strikeouts over 25.0 innings of work.  The Rockaway, N.J. native put together his finest season in 2017 after allowing just two earned runs in 10.2 innings to go along with seven Ks.
