ALBION, M.I. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team splits its matches on the opening day of the Albion Tournament on Friday. The Cardinals fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering, 3-1, in the opening match before defeating the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, 3-1, in the second match. Fisher now holds an overall record of 1-2.
How It Happened: St. John Fisher 2, MSOE 3
The Cardinals opened the first set strong, using a 6-3 run that featured two kills from junior outside hitter Lydia Fraser. Throughout the set, Fisher and the Raiders traded points, with MSOE putting together a 5-2 run late in the frame. The Raiders' rally wasn't enough to erase the deficit, as the Cardinals held on for a 25-21 victory. Fraser led the offense with six kills and two aces in the opening set.
Fisher carried its momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 6-2 lead behind three kills from sophomore middle blocker Teagan Moore. The Cardinals and Raiders continued to trade points before MSOE closed the set on a 6-1 run to secure a 25-19 victory and even the match at 1-1.
The Cardinals regained control in the third set, winning 25-19. Sophomore outside hitter Kalyna Dannenberg recorded four kills during Fisher's 10-4 run late in the set, helping the Cardinals pull away and take the set. Senior outside hitter Kaylene Noble also contributed four kills in the set.
The fourth set featured several momentum swings, with MSOE ultimately earning a 25-20 victory to force a deciding fifth set. Noble recorded four kills for the Cardinals, while MSOE's Emma Schattschneider tallied six kills.
In the final set, the score was tied at 4-4 before the Raiders went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. Fisher battled back, but MSOE held on to secure a 15-10 victory and take the match. Ella Notheisen and Emma Schattschneider each recorded four kills for the Raiders in the deciding set.Â

Early in the opening set, the Cardinals used an 8-1 run, with Fraser and Dannenberg each recording two kills during the stretch. The teams traded points throughout the remainder of the set, but Fisher held on for a 25-22 victory. Dannenberg finished the opening set with four kills.
The Panthers came out to an early lead, using a 5-0 run to build momentum and secure a 25-18 victory in the second set. Rebecca Pelonero and Aubrey Butlet each recorded three kills for the Panthers, while Dannenberg led Fisher with five kills.
The Cardinals responded in the third set, putting together a 6-1 run early in the frame, with Dannenberg recording two kills during the stretch. Fisher closed the set on a 9-3 run, with Fraser and Noble each recording two kills to help the Cardinals earn a 25-18 victory.
In the fourth and final set, the Cardinals carried their momentum into a 25-15 victory to clinch the match. Fraser and Dannenberg each recorded three kills to lead Fisher in the deciding set.
