PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The St. John Fisher women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over Alfred on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium, behind a two-goal effort from Molly Simmons and a shutout from goalkeeper Isabella Ayers. Fisher improves to 5-1-0 (1-0-0) on the season; Alfred falls to 1-4-2 (0-2-0).
How It Happened
Fisher controlled play from the opening whistle and broke through in the 19th minute when Morgan Tara buried the game's first goal, unassisted, to make it 1-0. The Cardinals carried that lead into halftime despite an 8-2 shot advantage, with Ayers needed just once to preserve the clean sheet in the opening 45.
Fisher pulled away in the second half. Simmons struck twice in the span of just over two minutes — first in the 64th minute and again in the 66th, both assisted by Emily Woolingham — to push the lead to 3-0. Olivia Feehan capped the scoring in the 79th minute, finishing unassisted to make it 4-0.
Ayers finished with the shutout in goal, and the Cardinals out-shot Alfred 18-2 on the afternoon, including an 11-1 edge in shots on goal.
