PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher dropped its season opener by a 2-0 final on Tuesday afternoon, unable to overcome a first-half deficit despite a strong showing from goalkeeper Parker Stusek. The Cardinals fell to 0-1-0 on the new season.
How It Happened
St. John Fisher had one of the best looks of the opening 45 minutes when Liam Furmansky's shot rattled off the crossbar, but the Cardinals fell behind moments later, conceding in the 35th minute.
The Cardinals came out with more purpose after the break, generating four shots and doubling their shot total from the first half, but a second goal against them in the final minutes closed the door on a comeback bid.
Stusek made seven saves to keep the Cardinals within a goal for most of the afternoon, and St. John Fisher held its own on the corner kick chart in the second half, forcing four in the final 45 minutes.
