ALFRED, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's soccer team began Empire 8 Conference play with a 3-1 loss to Alfred on Saturday at Yunevich Stadium. Fisher fell to 1-3-1 (0-1 E8), while the Saxons moved to 3-1-1 (1-0-1 E8).
How it Happened
Fisher generated four shots and earned a 2–1 advantage in corner kicks during the opening 45 minutes. The Cardinals were unable to put a shot on goal, however, while Alfred converted three of its four shots on target to take a 3–0 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals controlled much of the second half, logging 13 shots and seven corner kicks while limiting Alfred to five shots and no attempts on goal.
Fisher found the back of the net in the 71st minute after Canyon Reinhardt's goal on the rebound of Landon Touchette's 25-yard strike off the post, but the first-half deficit proved too much to overcome in the 3–1 setback.
