Women's Volleyball Rolls To Two Sweeps

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's volleyball team swept Alfred State and SUNY Delhi on Friday at the Manning and Napier Varsity Gym. The Cardinals opened with a 3-0 win over Alfred State before taking another 3-0 victory over SUNY Delhi. Fisher improved to 6-3 overall and extended its winning streak to five matches.

How It Happened: St. John Fisher 3, Alfred State 0

Alfred State came out strong in the opening set, taking an early 5-1 lead. With Alfred State leading 16-13, the Cardinals responded with a 9-2 run to take a 22-18 advantage. Sophomore outside hitter Kalyna Dannenberg recorded two kills during the stretch, while junior outside hitter Lydia Fraser added two service aces. Fisher went on to take the opening set, 25-21, behind five kills from Dannenberg and four from senior middle blocker Ana Gutman.

The Cardinals took control early in the second set, opening with an 8-2 lead. Senior outside hitter Kaylene Noble recorded two kills during the run, while sophomore libero Meadow Berube added two service aces. Fisher maintained its advantage throughout the set and secured a 25-18 win. Noble led the offense with five kills, while Dannenberg added four.

Fisher carried its momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 17-4 lead. Dannenberg recorded three kills during the stretch, while Berube added two service aces. Alfred State responded with a 7-1 run late in the set, but the Cardinals closed out the match with a 25-17 victory. Dannenberg and Gutman each recorded three kills in the set.

Match Notes

  • Dannenberg recorded 12 kills while hitting .360, her second-highest hitting percentage of the season.

  • Junior setter Zofia Keogh finished with 26 assists.

  • Berube recorded a career-high five service aces.

How It Happened: St. John Fisher 3, SUNY Delhi 0

SUNY Delhi came out strong in the opening set, building a 15-9 lead. The Cardinals responded late in the set with a 12-2 run to take control. Senior outside hitter Adeline Phillips and junior middle blocker Ashlen Croft each recorded two kills during the stretch. Fisher closed out the set with a 25-21 victory, with Fraser recording three kills.

The Cardinals carried their momentum into the second set, cruising to a 25-12 win. Noble and Phillips led the offense with four kills apiece, while junior setter Cadence Milligan recorded three service aces.

The third set featured back-and-forth play early before Fisher took control with a 10-1 run. Freshman outside hitter Emma Codden recorded two kills during the stretch. The Cardinals closed out the match with four consecutive points to take the set, 25-10. Codden and Phillips each recorded four kills in the set.

  • Phillips recorded a season-high 10 kills

  • Milligan finished with 18 assists, while junior setter Mari Hansen added 12.

The Cardinals will face RIT at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in Rochester, N.Y., before taking on SUNY Morrisville at 6 p.m. at Nazareth University.
