PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher field hockey team extended its winning streak to three games with a 4-0 shutout of Allegheny College on Sunday at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Gators fall to 2-3.
How it Happen
Just under six minutes into the opening quarter, the Cardinals struck first. Junior midfielder Holly Staurt found the back of the cage to give Fisher an early 1-0 lead.
The second quarter featured strong defense from both teams, as neither side found the back of the cage. The Gator recorded three shots, while Fisher registered one shot and earned one penalty corner. Allegheny had two penalty corners in the quarter.
The Cardinals began to take control in the third quarter. With just under two minutes remaining, Fisher was awarded a penalty stroke. Sophomore defender Brynn Bacal took the stroke and fired a shot into the top-left corner to extend the Cardinals' lead to 2-0.
With nine seconds remaining in the quarter, Stuart buried a feed from senior defender Lauren Fracy to give Fisher a 3-0 advantage and Stuart her second goal of the game.
The Cardinals added to their lead early in the fourth quarter. Just over a minute into the final frame, junior defender Jordan Kauffman scored off an assist from Stuart to cap the scoring at 4-0.
