PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team learned its opponent and host site for its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Monday afternoon during the NCAA Selection Show.
The Cardinals (12-3) will play The College of New Jersey (15-5) at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Voute Courts at Tufts Tennis Center in Medford, Mass, with the winner advancing to face Trinity (Texas) at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the second round. In the event of inclement weather, the matches will be played at the Manchester Athletic Club in Manchester, Mass.
Host Tufts will face the winner of the regional pod's other first-round contest between Moravian and Baruch. The winners of the second-round duals will play in the third-round match at noon on Sunday.
St. John Fisher defeated Norwich 4-0 and Alfred 4-3 this past weekend to win its first Empire 8 Conference title and secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Empire 8 named St. John Fisher junior Tyler Hernandez its Tournament MVP. Hernandez went 2-0 in the tournament in first singles, recording wins over Jaxon Redmond of Norwich in the semifinal round and Ricardo Alvarez of Alfred in the championship.
TCNJ, which will be making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2019, beat the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 4-2 over the weekend to capture its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.
