PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team extended its winning streak to a program-record nine dual matches with a 6-1 victory over East Avenue rival Nazareth to conclude the regular season on Wednesday evening at the Anette Shapiro Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals improved to 10-3 overall and 8-0 in Empire 8 Conference play with the victory, their second over the Golden Flyers this season. This marks the first time in program history that St. John Fisher has gone unbeaten in E8 regular-season competition.
The Cardinals swept the Golden Flyers in doubles action, with senior Will Chubb and junior Tyler Hernandez improving their record in first doubles to 8-3 with a 6-3 win over Max Funiciello and Pierre Ntonga. Freshman Finn Whitaker and senior Sean Brown beat Noah Britton and David Tuller 6-1 in second doubles, while freshmen Sebastian Dix and Matthew Lincoln took down Matthew Herb and Nathan Bigelow 6-0.
Hernandez (first singles), Chubb (second singles), Lincoln (third singles) and Brown (fifth singles) won their singles matches in straight sets. Dix outlasted Bigelow in three sets in fourth singles.
The Cardinals honored their two seniors – Brown and Chubb – before the contest.
