UTICA, N.Y. – Junior attacker Ellie Leisen piled up a career-high eight points as the No. 25 St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team trounced SUNY Poly 25-2 on Saturday afternoon for its seventh consecutive victory.
The Cardinals moved to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in Empire 8 Conference play with the victory, while SUNY Poly dropped to 2-9 overall and 1-4 in league action. The Cardinals have won 70 consecutive games against Empire 8 opponents, including regular-season and postseason contests, since the middle of the 2018 season.
Leisen scored four goals and tallied four assists to reach 100 points for her career in the offensive outburst. Over two games this week, she amassed a tremendous 15 total points on nine goals and six assists.
Seven other Cardinals recorded two points or more on Saturday, including senior attacker Dharma Makarowsky and sophomore attacker Chloe Scanlan. Makarowsky scored two goals and dished out three assists, while Scanlan scored four times and added one assist.
Sophomore midfielder Athena Lazina (two goals, one assist) produced three points. Senior midfielder Kaley Griffin, junior attacker Chelsea Lopata, sophomore midfielder Charlotte Walter and freshman midfielder Cara Harrington each scored two goals.
The Cardinals limited SUNY Poly to just three shots and caused 18 turnovers. Senior defender Maddie Lowney and sophomore defender Chelsea Mesick each caused three of them.
Fisher claimed 22 of the game's 28 draw controls, with Griffin accounting for 10 wins on her own. Lowney recorded five draw controls, and senior defender/midfielder Paige Miller had four.
How It Happened
Leisen tallied seven of her eight points for the game in the first quarter, scoring three goals and setting up four of them. Makarowsky scored twice, while Lopata, Scanlan, Mesick, Lazina, Griffin and junior defender Leah Hilton contributed a goal apiece.
The Cardinals went into halftime leading 17-0 after putting six more goals on the board in the second quarter. Scanlan led the Cardinals with two goals in the frame.
Harrington, Griffin and junior attacker Taylor Maxam found the back of the net for Fisher in the third quarter. Walter, Scanlan, Leisen, senior attacker Sydney Closinski and freshman attacker Camryn Smith accounted for the Cardinals' fourth-quarter tallies.
SUNY Poly scored once in the third quarter and added its second goal in the fourth.
