MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Junior attacker Scott Bovard tallied nine points to lead the No. 12 St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team in a 24-8 thrashing of Rhodes College on Friday night at Crain Field.
The Cardinals improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2022 with the victory. They have won 14 consecutive regular-season games since the middle of last season.
Bovard matched Fisher's third-highest single-game points total with five goals and four assists. Senior midfielder Lane Edinger scored four goals and had an assist for five points, while junior attacker Garrett Sutton had four points, all coming on goals. Senior midfielder Nick Hauman (2G, 1A), junior midfielder Sean Donaldson (2G, 1A) and freshman midfielder Hayden Lauer (1G, 2A) each amassed three points.
The Cardinals had 18 players record at least one point in the contest, with 12 of them scoring a goal. Freshman defender Jake Vernieri, freshman midfielder Collin McLaughlin and sophomore attacker Adam Vernon scored their first collegiate goals.
How It Happened
The Cardinals scored the first four goals of the game and led 6-2 at the end of the opening quarter. Sutton scored twice in the frame, while Donaldson, Bovard, Edinger and freshman midfielder John Korczukowski tallied one goal apiece. Bovard had two of his five assists in the quarter.
After Rhodes scored early in the second quarter to make it 6-3, the Cardinals ripped off a 14-0 run that didn't end until midway through the third quarter, pushing their lead to 20-3. Bovard (3), Edinger (3), Sutton (2) and Hauman (2) each found the back of the net multiple times during that stretch.
The Cardinals added four more goals over the final 20 minutes of the second half. Bovard scored his fifth of the game in the fourth quarter.
