BUENA VISTA, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia Southern men's volleyball team slammed nearly 40 kills while hitting .360 in a sweep (25-15, 25-18, 25-16) of St. John Fisher on Wednesday at Knight Arena. The Cardinals dropped to 9-8 overall with the non-league loss, which began their stretch of four straight games in Virginia. 

How It Happened 

The Knights had control from start to finish on the way to a 25-15 victory in the first set, which they began on a 10-4 run. The Knights slammed 13 kills and hit .571 in the frame, while the Cardinals had 11 kills and committed eight errors for a .100 hitting percentage. David Ward and Tommy Forsee both smashed four kills, and Gehrig Tolman racked up 10 assists. 

St. John Fisher struggled even more offensively in the second set, managing only five kills while committing six errors for an attacking percentage that finished in the negatives. The Knights recorded 13 more kills in the 25-18 win, with Ward tallying five more on 13 swings.

The Cardinals hung around early in the third set but once again were eventually overwhelmed by the Knights, who used a 6-2 run to take a six-point lead that grew to eight a short time later. Ward had three more kills in the 25-16 win to finish with 12, and Fisher had another difficult set offensively with eight errors and only six kills. 

Game Notes

• Freshman outside hitter Avery Kielbasinski led the Cardinals with five kills. 

• Freshman Dylan Leong tallied a season-high two service aces. 

• Southern Virginia finished with nine total blocks, including three solo.
