ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team swept Houghton in doubles and singles as it opened Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday with a 7-0 victory at the Midtown Athletic Club. The Cardinals improved to 3-3 overall with the victory, their first over Houghton since April 2017. The Highlanders had won 13 consecutive matches against the Cardinals.
Senior Will Chubb and junior Tyler Hernandez improved to 3-2 as partners with a 6-2 win over Rune Camps and Jonas Likens in first doubles. Sophomore Charlie Roberts and freshman Matthew Lincoln improved to 2-3 on the season with a 6-0 win over Benjamin Unger and Luke Maliszewski.
Senior Sean Brown and freshman Finn Whitaker earned their first win as partners, beating Jason Murphy / Eben Schilke in second doubles.
Brown, Chubb, Hernandez, Lincoln and freshman Sebastian Dix and Marshall Harrishburg recorded the Cardinals' singles wins. None of the six players lost a set.
