ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team (2-2) beat Concordia Chicago 7-0 before falling to Southern New Hampshire 6-1 as it began the spring season on Monday in the Sunshine State. 

Match 1: St. John Fisher 7, Concordia Chicago 0

The Cardinals won two of three doubles matches and all six singles matches in a 7-0 win over Concordia Chicago to start the day. The victory marked Jason Byam's first as the head coach of Fisher's men's tennis program. 

Tyler Hernandez and Will Chubb, who earned second-team All-Empire 8 honors as a doubles tandem last season, beat Andres Villagran and Smith 6-3. Freshman Matthew Lincoln and sophomore Charlie Roberts claimed a 6-0 win over Kevin Bullens and Diego Loveshe. 

Hernandez and Chubb recorded victories for Fisher in the first and second singles matches, respectively. Lincoln and fellow freshman Sebastian Dix, Finn Whitaker and Marshall Harrishburg followed with their first collegiate singles victories.

Southern New Hampshire swept Fisher in doubles and took five of six singles matches in a 6-1 victory. Roberts had the lone win for the Cardinals in singles, beating Tomas Valentim 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker) and 6-2.
