PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Geneseo's Kristin Suydam posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Knights rolled to a 64-34 win over the St. John Fisher women's basketball team on Friday night inside Manning & Napier Varsity Gym.
The Cardinals dropped to 10-11 overall and 7-5 in Empire 8 Conference play with the loss, while the Knights moved to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in E8 play. Geneseo stands two games behind Nazareth (11-1 E8) for first place in the conference race with four regular-season games remaining.
How It Happened
Geneseo began pulling away from Fisher at the end of the first quarter, nailing three 3-pointers in the final three minutes of the frame to take a 17-8 lead. The Knights pushed their advantage to 18 points, 26-8, with a 9-0 run that covered more than half of the second quarter. Fisher scored just five points to Geneseo's 14 in the quarter and didn't make a field goal until senior guard Julia Perales' 3-pointer at the 4:23 mark.
The game got further out of hand after halftime as the Knights used an 11-0 run to extend their cushion to 29 points, 42-13. Geneseo led by 33 at the end of the third quarter, during which it outscored Fisher 19-4. Senior guard Hannah Ferguson scored all four of the Cardinals' points in the quarter at the free-throw line.
Suydam scored six points in the third quarter and six more in the fourth to finish off a dominant performance. She finished an efficient 8-of-13 from the field.
Grace Galgano (11 points) and Maggie McGrane (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Knights, who shot a tick over 46% as a team in the contest. Aliza Whitehead scored seven points, all of them in the third quarter.
Senior guard Presleigh Brunner led the Cardinals with nine points. Pearles had six to go with a team-high three assists.
