NEW YORK – The St. John Fisher men's volleyball team (4-5, 0-2 UVC) lost its fourth straight match on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 6 New York University (9-2, 2-0 UVC) in four sets at the John A. Paulson Center.
How It Happened
The Cardinals slammed 15 kills while hitting .333 in a 25-23 victory to open the match. Freshman Avery Kielbasinski had six kills in the first set, and senior Casey Jackson had three. Senior Gabe La Robardiere had two kills and a pair of block assists.
Junior Guillermo Perez gave the Cardinals a 23-22 lead with a kill before Fisher secured the set win on an NYU attacking error.
After that, it was mostly a slog for the Cardinals, who lost three straight sets to the Violets, 25-20, 25-16, and 25-17. The Violets hit .303 in the second set, .360 in the third and .500 in the fourth.
NYU's Emerson Evans slammed 21 kills while hitting .390 and tallied a pair of service aces for 23.5 points. Charlie Clifford, who hit .414, pounded 15 kills and had a block assist for 15.5 points. Setter Evan Nguyen amassed 40 assists, with 12 of them coming in the second set.
The victory marked NYU's third in a row over the Cardinals, who fell to 4-5 all-time against the Violets.
