PURCHASE, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher men's ice hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Manhattanville on Saturday, beating the Valiants 4-1. The Cardinals improved to 11-13-0 (5-11-0 UCHC), while the Valiants dropped to 4-18-1 (3-11-0 UCHC).
How It Happened
The Cardinals opened the scoring nine minutes into the first period when Jonathan Sonedecker set up Addam Brunner, who buried a shot to give Fisher the early lead.
The Cardinals doubled their advantage just over two minutes into the second period as Sam Ciappa and Michael Peluso assisted on a goal by Lucas Di Chiara. Less than a minute later, the Cardinals pushed the lead to 3-0 when James Evans found the back of the net off a feed from Wyatt Swonger. Fisher continued its momentum later in the frame as Charlie Robinson fired home a shot off an assist from Carter Cwiklinski to extend the lead to four.
The Valiants got on the board with seven minutes left in regulation when Cameron Vassos scored, but the last push proved to be too little, too late. Goaltender Sebastian Woods made 36 saves, his third time this season with 36 or more saves. He made 86 saves and allowed just one goal on the weekend.Â
