Men's Soccer Blanked at Utica in Empire 8 Contest

UTICA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's soccer team held Utica without a shot on goal through the first half, but the Pioneers found the breakthrough after the break and earned a 2-0 Empire 8 win on Wednesday at the Laura M. Casamento Track and Field Complex. The Cardinals move to 5-4-1 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

How It Happened

Fisher controlled much of the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Utica 7-5 and earning all four of its corner kicks before halftime. Ashton Giambrone forced the first save of the night in the 10th minute, and Adam Grover came closest to opening the scoring when his shot rattled off the crossbar in the 39th minute. Jeremiah Strader tested the Utica keeper again in the 45th minute, but his effort was turned away, and the teams went to the locker room scoreless.

Grover put another low shot on frame in the 49th minute, but Utica broke the deadlock in the 57th. Felix-Assa Loselose switched the ball across the field to Santiago Consalvo, who chipped a shot into the upper-left corner.

Parker Stusek kept the Cardinals within one with a stop in the 60th minute, and Giambrone answered at the other end with a shot on target in the 65th. Utica doubled its lead in the 69th minute when Loselose converted a penalty kick into the lower-right corner.

Stusek made three more saves over the final 20 minutes to keep the margin at two, while Strader and Landon Touchette fired back-to-back shots in the 76th minute, with Touchette's effort saved.
