PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher women's basketball guard Natalie Mai has been named Empire 8 Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Mai, now a two-time recipient of the honor this season, scored 19 points while shooting 8-of-18 overall and 3-of-8 from 3-point range over two games in the Smith College Holiday Tournament last week.
Mai led the Cardinals' offense in a 61-53 loss to The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, scoring 12 points while shooting 5-of-10 overall, including 2-of-4 from long distance. She added seven points on 3-of-8 shooting in a 63-56 victory over Husson on Wednesday.
Through nine games, Mai leads the Cardinals in 3-point percentage (41.3%) and 3-pointers made (19-of-46). She's averaging 10.9 points per game, the second-best mark on the team behind senior guard Presleigh Brunner (14.6).
The Cardinals (3-6) open Empire 8 play against Alfred University at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday inside Manning & Napier Varsity Gym.
